The New Hampshire Fisher Cats let Monday's contest with the Portland Sea Dogs get away from them in the fifth inning, allowing six runs in the frame in an eventual 8-4 defeat.

The game was all square at 2-2 after Kevin Smith (two hits, one walk, two runs scored) hit a double and later scored on an error in the top of the fifth.

But, in the bottom half, 10 Sea Dogs came to the plate, using three hits, two walks and a hit batter to drive across six runs.

Smith doubled and scored again later, while Chad Spanberger hit a home run in the ninth inning to make it a four-run game, but that was as close as the Fishercats would get.

New Hampshire squares off with the Sea Dogs again on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Hadlock field in Portland.
