Methuen is looking for a new baseball coach after Eric Cyr stepped down. He was the head man the last five years (44-63 record) and from 1996-04 (88-97 record).

NEXT COACH?

A couple possible replacements for Cyr might be Chris Cyr, Eric’s brother, and the successful Methuen Junior Legion coach and Bill Blackwell, Blackwell is the new Ranger hockey coach and former Lawrence baseball coach.

FISET HIRED

Former Timberlane player and assistant coach Nick Fiset is the new boys basketball coach at Epping High. Fiset is a detective with the Atkinson Police Dept.

UTL birthday wishes go out to Pentucket Regional trainer Matt Lovett (tomorrow), Central Catholic and North Andover Hall of Famer Dick Licare (the big 6-0 Tuesday), Keene State lax star Tom Jenoski of Windham (22 Tuesday), Lawrence baseball coach Brendan Neilon (46 Wednesday) and Harvard soccer player Alli Wiggins of Methuen (20 Saturday).

WRITE STUFF

Got a kick out of reading WEEI’s Gerry Callahan of Andover was told his sophomore year that he wasn’t good enough to write for the UMass school paper. As it turned out, Callahan was good enough to write for Sports Illustrated.

TWIN CARDINALS

Stanford didn’t have to work too hard to land standout freshman volleyball twins Michaela and Caitlin Keefe. Mom Kristin (volleyball) and dad Adam Keefe (volleyball/basketball) are both in the Stanford Hall of Fame. Adam also played nine years in the NBA.
