The Northern Essex Community College softball team had little difficulty with Southern Maine Community College on Tuesday, winning 19-1 in 5 innings to open the season.

Georgetown’s Maddy Crateau went 2 for 4 with a home run, a walk and 3 RBIs, Methuen’s Angelina Correia went 2 for 5 with two doubles and three RBIs, Toni Mariano of Georgetown went 1 for 3 with three RBIs, Ashley Bezemes of Seabrook, N.H., went 3 for 4 with four RBIs and a triple, and Nodine Webster pitched 5 innings and allowed only one earned run while striking out three and walking two.

NECC (1-0) will head down to the Community College of Rhode Island for a double header on Thursday. Game 1 is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and Game 2 for 5 p.m.
