LOWELL — Brad Mills and the Lowell Devils' penalty kill each scored their first two goals of the season in a 5-3 win over the Adirondack Phantoms last night. It was the first time in Lowell's four-year history that they scored two short-handed goals in one game.
Holding on to a 1-0 lead after one, the Devils exploded for four goals in the second frame. Nick Palmieri started things up when he picked up a loose puck on the back dasher and banked it off of goalie Nic Riopel and across the goal line.
Mills poked in his second of the night at 5:29.
Lowell had killed off seven straight Adirondack power plays until Jon Matsumoto converted at 7:59 of the third to make the score 5-3.
Jeff Frazee stopped 31 shots for his fifth win of the season.
Lowell continues its four-game homestand Friday at 7 p.m. vs. Bridgeport.
