FISHKILL, N.Y. — Kevin McAvoy, Enfember Martinez and Ellis Jimenez combined to shut out the Hudson Valley Renegades Friday night as the Spinners topped the first place Gades, 5-0.

Leading 1-0, Lowell (29-31) broke it open in the fifth inning. Singles by Nick Moore, Alixon Suarez and Deiner Lopez (RBI) plated a run. A two-run throwing error on a bunt single by Raymel Flored. A Joseph Monge sac fly capped the scoring.

McAvoy allowed just one hit over three innings. Martinez (1-0, 3.22) followed with three one-hit innings.

Jimenez picked up his first save of the season with three scoreless innings.

The clubs play again today at 7:05 p.m.

They return home Wednesday (vs. Connecticut, 7:05 p.m.).

Akron downs Fisher Cats

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Derrick Chung broke out of his slump with two doubles, three hits and two RBI but the Fisher Cats lost 9-7 Friday to the Akron Rubber Ducks.

Jon Berti, Melky Mesa and Kevin Nolan added two hits each for New Hampshire.

Michael Crouse scored twice.

The Fisher Cats (59-66) fell in a 5-0 hole. They cut it to 7-5 but the visitors, who improved to 70-56, held on.

Manchester hosts Akron again today at 7:05 p.m.
